Based on a novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, 1993’s Jurassic Park tells the story of a billionaire who creates a theme park filled with cloned dinosaurs. What could possibly go wrong? Well, as it turns out, live dinosaur theme parks are a bad idea. But making a movie about the mayhem that ensues turned out to be a great idea.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park became a critically acclaimed, commercial hit that spawned three sequels, including this year’s blockbuster Jurassic World. Jurassic World has been the most successful film in the series yet, with a worldwide box office gross that has already surpassed $1.5 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. With a total of four hit films in the franchise now, it should come as no surprise that there is plenty of Jurassic Park-related of merchandise out there. Whether you’re a longtime fan of this sci-fi action franchise, or just appreciate quality dinosaur-themed gear, you’ll want to own (or clone) these seven Jurassic Park gifts that we have unearthed.
1. Jurassic World Logo T-Shirts For Men
In the movies, the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World theme parks sold merchandise that was branded with the parks’ own logos. And those logos were identical to the logos that were used to market the movies. So browsing for Jurassic Park or Jurassic World merchandise can be a bit of a surreal experience, since there is often no difference between the items being purchased by characters in the movies and the items that you can buy in the real world. Jurassic World even plays with this self-referential commercialization with a fake shopping website for the gift shops on Isla Nubar. Of course, the only item you can actually purchase from that website is tickets to see the movie.
Fortunately, there are other places on the Internet where you can actually purchase some of the same items that were featured in the movie. For example, this Jurassic World Logo T-shirt for Men is identical to ones being sold to shoppers in the movie. And while Jurassic World may have a poor record when it comes to safety, the park does have a pretty awesome logo. You can find the Jurassic Park Men’s Jurassic World Logo T-Shirt here.
2. American Classics Men’s Jurassic Park Logo T-Shirt
Jurassic Park or Jurassic World – no matter what they call it, there’s still a good chance that you’ll be eaten by a dinosaur before your visit is over. But if you prefer the original Jurassic Park to the brand new Jurassic World theme park, you can get devoured in this old school Men’s Jurassic Park Logo T-Shirt. Featuring the classic Jurassic Park logo from 1993, this t-shirt lets people know that you survived the very first theme park built on Isla Nubar. It’s available in several colors, but we personally prefer the bloodstain-concealing black. You can find the American Classics Men’s Jurassic Park Logo T-Shirt here.
3. Design Toscano Velociraptor, Jurassic-sized Dinosaur Statue, Multicolored
At this point you’re probably thinking, “Okay. Enough with the t-shirts. Where’s the crazily impractical Jurassic World merch that no sane person would consider buying unless they were being coerced by a 5-foot tall velociraptor?” Well, look around, clever girl. Cast in quality designer resin, this 62-inch-high, 103-pound life-size statue of a velociraptor will have your neighbors wondering whether you just successfully cloned your own prehistoric creature. Suitable for indoor or outdoor display, this velociraptor statue is not for the faint of heart – both for its realistically rendered fangs and for the bite it will take out of your bank account. You can find the Jurassic-sized Velociraptor Dinosaur Statue here.
4. Insect In Amber
In the Jurassic Park movies, geneticists are able to create dinosaur clones by extracting DNA found in insects trapped in amber. And while we can’t vouch for the feasibility of the science used in Jurassic Park, fossilized amber pieces with insects trapped inside really do exist. Now you can conduct your own cloning experiments with these chunks of amber from the Oligocene period (about 33-23 million years ago). However, it should be noted that even if your cloning experiment is successful, you won’t be creating any dinosaurs from the DNA in these pieces of amber – dinosaurs had already been extinct for about 32 million years when these insects were trapped. On the other hand, do you really want to clone a dinosaur? Watch Jurassic World before you answer that. You can find Insect in Amber pieces here.
5. Jurassic Park Trilogy [Blu-ray]
If Jurassic World was your first exposure to this dinosaur-packed franchise, then you’re in luck. Because there are still three other Jurassic Park movies for you to see. However, even if you’ve already seen them before, it’s definitely worth owning these three classic sci-fi films in gorgeous high-definition. The Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-ray collection includes 1993’s Jurassic Park, 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and 2001’s Jurassic Park III. And when watching these movies with friends, don’t forget to leave your velociraptor statue parked by the fridge for extra entertainment. You can find the Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-ray here.6. LEGO Jurassic World video game
Lego may have started as a plastic brick construction toy company, but in recent years it’s been knocking it out of the park with dozens of video games that put a Lego spin on popular movie franchises. So it comes as no surprise that Jurassic World would also get its own version of a Lego video game. LEGO Jurassic World incorporates the storylines featured in all the Jurassic Park movies and recreates many of the films’ iconic action sequences – albeit with Lego’s signature humor. This particular video game is the Xbox 360 Standard Edition, but LEGO Jurassic World is also available for Microsoft’s Xbox One; Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS; and Sony’s PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. You can find the LEGO Jurassic World Xbox 360 Standard Edition video game here.
7. Monopoly: Jurassic World Edition Board Game
If you’re a Jurassic World fan and your gaming tastes lean more toward the non-digital type, then you’ll definitely appreciate the special edition of this classic board game. The Monopoly: Jurassic World Edition Board Game allows you to buy and sell dinosaurs and properties as you seek to monopolize the dinosaur theme park business. Besides replacing the standard properties with Jurassic World attractions, the game also includes new collectible tokens that feature Jurassic Park icons, such as the theme park branded jeeps and a T-Rex skull. Why would you play regular old Monopoly when there’s a Jurassic World version available? You can find the Monopoly: Jurassic World Edition Board Game here.
